Be You Bravely

Words on Parenting Wednesday is a weekly post series on the subject of parenting. I’ll talk about any adventures we have with our girls to motherhood experiences to fun and games for children to featuring mommy bloggers.

This Fall, I started being a part of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). It is a place where I can be with other Moms while my girls are playing with other kids. You can find out more about MOPS here. The theme for this quarter is “Be You Bravely.”

This past weekend, MOPS put on a MOMcon in Louisville, KY. The theme for the conference was also “Be You Bravely.” I was able to watch the sessions online, which was very motivational. There were many great speakers that encouraged us Moms to “Be you, bravely.”

As Moms, we need to be brave in whatever comes our way every day. We don’t need to be afraid of who we are. Sometimes we need to take a step or two of bravery. Maybe we have to admit that we should do more or there are different ways we need to approve. Maybe there is something big we want to do. How can you be a better you?

During one of the sessions, an anthem was performed by Amena Brown on “The Brave Mom.” The words are very motivational.

Many days
You are a supershero with no cape
Just flats, jeans, sneakers, and yoga pants
Ready to answer the mom signal at any time

You are also a woman
A feeling, breathing, thinking, dreaming woman
Motherhood may have brought you a few extra curves
But it also taught you the power of words

Every time that I hear the words spoken in his anthem, it makes me tear up. It helps me to remember that I am more than just a Mom. I am a brave Mom. I am ready everyday to take care of my girls. Some days may be tough, I may be worn out/exhausted, or nothing seems to be going my way, but I have to be strong to be there for my girls. The anthem also reminds me that I am a woman. Majority of my time I am in my role as a Mom, but I also need to take some time and be a woman. It is important to do something for myself. And most of all, be brave in whatever I do.

I hope this anthem is as motivational as it was for me. I recommend watching the video and reading the words below the video. I also recommend watching the MOMcon session videos to encourage you to be you, bravely.

Are you ready to be you bravely?

  1. This is such a great reminder. It’s tough, but sometimes taking time to be you as a woman is what makes it possible to dive back into the you that is a mom! Thanks for the encouragement to be me, bravely!
