Have you started potty training your toddler(s) yet? I’m in the middle of potty training my girls. We started training at the end of January.

Katie turned 3 years old in October and she was starting to get interested again in going potty. I started potty training with her when she was about 17 months old. It was going pretty well. Katie was going #1 and #2 in the potty. She would have few accidents in her underwear. I spend so much time in the bathroom. I think that it was starting to get too much for her. Katie started fussing whenever I started talking about the potty. So I decided to cut back and try again later until she was ready.

Today I am guest posting on Kaitlin’s blog at An Apple Per Day. She guest posted on my blog couple weeks ago on why now is a perfect time for swimming lessons. I’m sharing about how my girls love play pretend as a little chef in their play kitchen. You can check out my guest post on her website here.

What do you think of this play kitchen area in my girls’ room? If your children love to play with food, tea sets, or kitchens, I know they would love this play area.

Couple weeks ago was my daughter, Katie’s, 3rd birthday. I wanted to bake a cake for her birthday party. Last year for Katie’s birthday, I made her lemon raspberry cupcakes. So this year for Katie’s birthday, I wanted to bake something different.

I asked Katie what kind of cake she wanted and she told me, “Chocolate!” So I decided on a chocolate strawberry cake with chocolate strawberry cream cheese frosting. Katie loves chocolate and strawberries and cream cheese frosting is one of the best frostings.

I used the chocolate cake recipe in my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook and added strawberries to the recipe.

For decorating the cake, I took letters to spell ‘Katie’ and the number 3 and placed them on the cake. I sprinkled pink sugar inside of the letters and number. Then I lightly sprinkled the pink sugar on top of the cake. I added celebration sixlets in pink as the top and bottom trim.

Here is my recipe for chocolate strawberry cake with chocolate strawberry cream cheese frosting.

Are you a mother of a toddler or older children? Have you experienced your toddler being afraid of the dark or the shadows in the dark?

Few months ago, my daughter, Katie (almost 3), has discovered what shadows are. She was touching the shadow of her big Minnie Mouse and wondering what it was. I told Katie it was a shadow. So for few weeks all she talked about was Minnie Mouse’s shadow.

As time went on, Katie noticed a lot more shadows such as things in our house and things outside (ex: tree branches). She would even ask my husband and I if we were afraid. We of course told her we weren’t.

When it comes to starting solids for your infant, do you know where to start? When are they ready? What types of food do you feed your infant first?

I have two toddler girls of my own, Katie and Sophia, so I’ve introduced solids twice. It is a messy process, but my girls sure enjoyed the different flavors of the foods.

One of my readers requested some tips on introducing solids, so I thought I would share my experience with my girls.
